Where You Can Work as an STNA
Something to consider when you embark on any new career path is where you might be working once you finish your training. That’s especially important if you’re planning to become a State Tested Nursing Assistant, or STNA.
Hospitals
One of the most obvious places you might work as an STNA is probably a hospital. Hospitals have a huge demand for nursing staff, particularly STNA’s. Hospitals also offer you the opportunity to work a fairly flexible schedule because they never close. So, if you’re someone who wants to work nights, you can probably easily find a position that accommodates that want.
Doctor’s Offices and Clinics
Private practices, particularly ones that are large and busy, might need STNA’s to help out. This is particularly the case if the practice is an urgent care type of clinic or if the doctor has multiple partners in the practice. This is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a weekday schedule with office-style schedules.
Nursing Homes
Nursing homes typically have a high demand for STNA’s. These facilities are extremely busy, and the patients generally require a great deal of assistance. There’s always something to do and you’ll probably never be bored if you opt to seek employment in a nursing home.
Assisted Living Centers
Assisted living centers seem on the surface to be similar to nursing homes, but the patients in nursing homes require a great deal of help. People living in assisted living centers may need a much smaller amount of help and the types of tasks you’ll be tackling each day might be far more diverse than you would expect.
In-home Health Care Companies
If you’re someone who likes being out and about rather than tied to one particular location, you might want to consider working for an in-home health care company. STNA”s who work for home care services travel to their patients’ homes and help with a variety of tasks depending on what needs to be done. This is a wonderful way to be an STNA without feeling as overwhelmed as a busy hospital or clinic might make you feel.
There are so many different ways you can use your training as an STNA. As you learn more about where your skills are needed, you may find that you’re more drawn to one particular setting over another. Or you might decide you want to try a few of them out over time.
